The Fourth of July Fireworks in New York

Later in the evening we joined thousands of New Yorkers to attend the 2007 Fourth of July fireworks on the banks of the East River. We almost didn’t make it because as soon as we left our hotel it started to pour down with rain. Fortunately there were plenty of enterprising vendors selling umbrellas so we bought one for $10 and proceeded down to the river. Well we didn’t get too far very fast as every man and his dog were also heading the same way so it was wall to wall people for most of the way.

As we neared the river we had to open our bags on the way through for the cops to check them. The huge police presence was amazing.

We finally managed to inch our way down to the rivers edge and the fireworks started almost immediately.

Unfortunately, with the weather the way it was and the fact that the smoke from the fireworks wasn’t clearing, a good majority of the fireworks couldn’t be seen very well. This was a bit disappointing and a lot of the crowd left well before it finished. Still, the remaining crowd were enthusiastic enough so it turned out to be a fun night.

We thought that there would have been a parade to celebrate the occassion but alas not in Manhatten.

The photos give a bit of an idea of how awesome the fireworks were but as you can see the smoke wasn’t clearing quick enough to give us a clear view.
