Off to New Zealand

Val (hubby) and I arrived back from Tara on the Sunday night and rushed around getting things packed ready to set off to NZ the next day.

Our son Jurgon  dropped us off at the airport.

The Brisbane International airport has been upgraded since the last time we flew out.  Everything runs very smoothly and the signs make it very easy to see where you need to be.  We quickly went through customs and headed off to change some money and have a coffee before boarding the aircraft.

Thought this little display was interesting. Not too sure what it represents as there wasn’t a plaque explaining the scene. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

We flew with Virgin Pacific and to see a movie you need to hire a DVD player for $15.00, so I didn’t bother, I read a couple of magazines and played games on my 02 (handheld computer), Val read.

The flight was smooth and seemed to go very quickly.  NZ is two hours ahead of Australia. and we arrived in Auckland at around 2:30 and headed off to hire a car.

Val found a booth that rented sim cards for mobile phones at $1.00 per day plus calls. We thought this was an excellent idea.  You can also hire mobile phones, but I had my 02 which is also a phone so that wasn’t necessary.

All set with car keys to a brand new 4 door, green Hyandi Getz with only 14 klms on the clock, we set off for Auckland city, and believe me we were in for a shock.

Val and I were born in Auckland but have been based in Australia since 1981, and there have been many changes since we left.  Firstly there are the new motorways and distances that once seemed to take forever are now mere moments.
