Our lovely niece Jenny has just emailed through some family photos and amongst them is of Val and I when we were married and another one of us at Roy and Kays wedding a couple of years later.
This is so fantastic for us as all our photos were lost years ago and we have no photos of when we were young. This photo was taken at the arbor at the Auckland Domain.
Because of family reasons we were married in the Auckland Registry Office and our witnesses were Val’s nephew Roy and niece Marilyn. No one attended from my family but a number of my friends from work came.
Val didn’t turn 21 until the following day so he had to have his parents authorisation to get married. We had a small family dinner that night and the next night at Val’s 21st, he introduced me as his wife. We hadn’t told anyone that we were getting married, so it was a surprise for everyone.
This photo was taken a couple of years later at Roy and Kays wedding.

Demelza, you are so mean to your grandmother.
I’ll have you all know that my hat was considered to be very fashionable at the time.
I do have to admit that it looks like one of the pavlovas that I used to make.
Grandad, you still have the same cute smile. Even though we see it upside down at times.
It is no wonder I ended up marring your son.
And to think of all I have to look forward to. Yep I will be there to the end.
Deborah conway said it best for you and Jurgon ,Stacy, “It’s only the beginning and I’ve already gone and lost my mind” welcome to the asylym! The lunatics have taken over, they wear cakes on their heads and smile upside down.
I love youse guys.
Dear everyone, It was fun reading all the comments about the photos – believe me, my Aunty Wanda and Uncle Val were (still are) the prettiest and handsomist couple. That is why they have such pretty and handsome children and Grandchildren. I wore a Pavlova hat as well – As your mum said, they were very fashionable and of course we were up with the fashion in those days.
Love to all Jenny (cousin) NZ
