One thing to remember is to not over plan. Often people become so wrapped up in the planning process that they never get around to taking the trip. Of course it depends where you want to go. Granted some countries do require more research and planning than others. But often it is better to just get up and go. I have a little motto that I live by: If it's important to you, and you want to do it 'eventually' - just do it and correct course along the way. Ubertramp has written about some amazing adventures.
