Moving To Downtown Las Vegas from The Strip
By traveltripz on Mar 6, 2008 in Las Vegas, USA
After our luxurious stay at Caesars Palace, we moved to Downtown Las Vegas to the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. We hadn’t seen the downtown part of town yet and thought that the best way to experience it was to actually stay there.
Our first thought was to catch the monorail to the Stratoshpere and walk the rest of the way to The Golden Nugget. Thank goodness we decided against this action and decided to cab it.
We got into a taxi at Caesars Palace and the driver proceeded to tell us a little about the area including the fact that Downtown Las Vegas has a different caliber of people from The Strip. She told us that there are a lot of homeless around the area so we should keep an eye on our bags and don’t stray too far from the main streets. Good advice, although just because someone is homeless doesn’t mean they are untrustworthy, however, like most tourists we will no doubt stay close to the tourist areas, after all that is where the action generally is.
As you can imagine, after hearing this sort of information from the cab driver, we are wondering what our hotel will be like. The cab driver drops us at the back entrance to the hotel and after paying about $22 for the trip from Caesars Palace we make our way into the hotel. You can usually get an idea of what a hotel will be like from the lobby area so we were very happy as we made our way to the front desk.
The Golden Nugget is a beautiful looking hotel with marble surrounds and gorgeous light fitting, lots of shops, and a swimming pool that has a very large shark tank and plenty of seating for anyone wanting to catch some sun.
The shark tank cost $30 million to construct and houses 6 species of shark, a stingray and various other fish. It holds 200,000 gallons of water and has a three story waterslide that goes through the tank.
There are cabanas available on the second and third floors. The whole effect is very pleasant and you can get a drink and sit either poolside or take advantage of the seating in the pool.
We are situated on Freemont St where there are lots of casino’s, restaurants and entertainment. In fact the area has quite a nice feel to it and we don’t feel at all intimidated.
We are also not too far from the Premier Shopping Outlets. So there is plenty to see and do. And we are really glad we have come to experience Downtown Las Vegas.
