First Ride on a San Francisco Cable Care

After arriving back at the pier we walked up Jefferson and had lunch at Johnny Rocket. Just love eating at this diner. Then it was back to the hotel before heading off to Hyde St to catch the cable car.  The weather became very overcast and we had just purchased a 3 day ticket for $18.00 when it started to rain. We joined the queue and at the start it wasn’t too bad but as we shuffled along the sky opened and it began to pour. We were both drenched, well so was everyone else except for those smart enough…

A visit to San Francisco isn’t complete without a visit to Alcatraz so we did the right thing and bought two tickets for the ferry trip across to the island. Booking for Alcatraz must be done in advance as it is a popular tour so we booked 2 days ahead. If you are coming during a busy time of the year make it a point of buying your tickets on the day you arrive so you don’t miss out. We purchased our tickets at Pier 33 at Fishermans Wharf which is where the ferry leaves from and they cost $24.50…

What a great way to explore the city of San Francisco, simply purchase a ticket for the City Sightseeing bus tour. Make sure you pick up a tourist brochure or map from one of the many stands around Fisherman’s Wharf so that you receive a $10 discount on the 48 hour, 3 loop pass. For the sum of $39.99 you can travel around the Downtown Loop, The Night Tour and the Golden Gate Tour. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express, Fisherman’s Wharf, so we were really close to the departure point in Leavenworth Ave. Once everyone has boarded, the bus sets…

Fisherman’s Wharf in San Fransisco is a great place to visit with plenty to see and one of the highlights are the sea lions at Pier 39. These sea lions set up residence after the 1989 earthquake and although they come and go depending on the season there are a number of them that remain at Pier 39 all year round. Most of the time the sea lions are lazing themselves on the specially made pontoons but now and then they will hop in and out of the water or bicker with each other much to the crowds amusement. Although…

Today we were late to breakfast so there wasn’t much left, not that I’m not naming names but Paula was busy beautifying herself, which was why we were late. So after a meager breakfast, with vows to get down to breakfast earlier tomorrow, we set off to catch the hop on, hop off bus back to downtown San Francisco to the Apple Store as the new speakers we brought yesterday to turn our ipod into a recording device didn’t work. This time one of the staff at the store told us that we needed to upgrade the iPod before it…

Today we made our way down to the City Sightseeing office to buy a couple of tickets for the hop-on, hop-off bus. These buses are available in a number of cities around the world and have the advantage of allowing you to hop off the bus at any of the stops on the route to see the sights and then hop back on at a later time as the buses run at regular intervals. There are two companies running this sort of tour in San Francisco ‘City Sightseeing’ and ‘Grays’. We chose City Sightseeing because we found a voucher in…

This afternoon we took a walk up to Lombard St which has the distinction of being known as the Crookedest Street in the world. The street is about a 10 minute walk from our hotel and the walk is mostly uphill. As we all know, some of the streets in San Francisco can be quite steep, still it was worth the walk as it is fun watching the cars trying to navigate their way down through the street. Apparently a stretch limousine once tried to drive through the street but couldn’t make one of the turns and was stuck in the street for…

Leaving Las Vegas & Arriving in San Francisco

It is 4am and I am wide awake and have been since 2.05am. Then for some reason the alarms on our 02 PC Phones went off at 3.30am even though they were set for 4.30am. As soon as we are packed and ready we head down to check-out and then make our way to the airport in a cab. As it was so early we have no problems with traffic and we arrive at the airport by 5.30am. The taxi cost us about $35. Nowhere near as cheap as a shuttle bus but we wanted to be sure that we were…

During our stay at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinowe ate at the Plaza Hotel and Casino’s buffet on numerous occasions for both breakfast and dinner. The buffet is well known in downtown Las Vegas as it is one of the cheapest buffets available and people from many different hotels come here to eat for this reason. Whether you are having breakfast, lunch or dinner at the buffet it is always the same price at only $7.77. We decided to give it a go after heading to the Golden Nugget buffet and finding that because it was a Saturday we could…
