I am really looking forward to today. We are going to the de Young Museum to see the ‘TUT’ exhibition. The story of mystery and magic surrounding the life and death of the boy king ‘Tutankahem’ has always been a favorite of mine. We head into Union Square and then down to the Visitors Information Centre to find out how to get to the Golden Gate Park. We had missed the 10:30am hop on hop off bus which only goes twice a day to the park. An elderly gentleman behind the counter casually waved in some direction and said catch…

The Golden Gate Park – De Young Museum -Tutankhamun Exhibition San Francisco
CitySightseeing The Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury,
Being gluttons for punishment we continue to drive around San Francisco on an open top bus in the freezing cold and after arriving back at Leavenworth St we catch the downtown loop bus to as we were going to go and see the Tutankhamen exhibition at the De Young Museum in the Golden Gate Park. But in the end we changed our minds and will do that tomorrow. Our tour guide was so interesting we preferred to stay on the bus and hear what she had to say. Plus I was looking forward to driving through the Haight – Ashbury…
CitySightseeing – the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausaltio, the Palace of Fine Arts
Today is cold and windy, and of course this is the day we have decided to take the bus over the Golden Gate Bridge and go onto to Sausalito. The Bridge is cloaked in fog but the view is not too bad. There are a couple of new tours since Paula and I were here last year and the Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito is one of them, although you can just do the bridge tour if you wish. Our ride is a converted school bus and we sit in the uncovered section in the back, probably not the smartest…
Mel’s Drive In and Ripley’s Believe it or Not in San Francisco
This morning was wash day. The laundry is situated in the garage of the Holiday Inn just a short walk up the road. So I purchased enough quarters to do a couple of loads, one today and one before we leave for Las Vegas. The costs for using the laundry are as follows: Laundry powder – $1.00 per box Washing machine – $2.00 per load Dryer – $2.00 per load So all in all quite economical. Once the washing was completed we headed off to Levenworth St to purchase tickets for the hop on hop off bus. I forgot to…
Shopping For a Wireless USB Device in San Francisco
Before coming over to the US we had checked out the buying a USB prepaid wireless internet device and online it looked as if Best Buy had the best deal. So this morning Val and I headed out to Best Buy to check it out. We walked down to Mason St and caught the Mason-Powell cable car into Market St which is the main street in San Francisco. Not being sure where to head to from the drop off point we headed left down Market St and asked a couple of street vendors and in Walgreens if they knew where…
Flying with Qantas and Arriving in San Francisco
We left the Stamford Plaza Hotel in Sydney at 11:30am in the airport shuttle heading off to Terminal 1 to catch the plane to San Francisco. Check in was quick and easy and I changed some dollars at Thomas Cook, making sure I had plenty of one dollar bills for tips once we arrive in the US. I vow this is the last time I travel in cattle class. Val had the window seat, I was in the middle and an American lady who lives in Canberra and was traveling to Portland to meet up with her partner, had the…
Review: Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel – Highly Recommended
Well I have to say that I am very pleased with the standard of the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel and thoroughly recommend this hotel when you have a stop over in Sydney. It is simply minutes from the airport and there is a shuttle provided to and from both the domestic and international terminals for $6.00 per person. I booked this hotel through HotelClub.com and it was self rated at 5 stars. I would say it is probably in keeping with a 4 star hotel. The check in service is quick and the staff friendly and efficient. The room…
Leaving Brisbane for Sydney Day 1 of our trip to the US
When I booked this trip to the US through Expedia.com, I didn’t notice that the first leg was from Brisbane to Sydney. That’s not a problem of course, it just adds an extra dimension to the trip. My granddaughter Ayla and her boyfriend Tim took us to Brisbane Airport to catch the 8:45pm flight to Sydney. Check in with Qantas didn’t take too long and the young man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. We reached the gate in plenty of time, and of course the flight was delayed. Why am I not surprised. After a very smooth flight…
Soaring Above Southbank on the Wheel of Brisbane
Today Ayla (grandaughter) and I went into Southbank. I haven’t been there for many years so it was quite a surprise to see the changes that have been made over the years. After strolling along the boardwalk and taking a photo of Ayla in front of the Thai Temple we headed to the new attraction, the Wheel of Brisbane. The wheel is just as the name implies a ferris wheel with 42 closed in gondola’s each holding up to 6 adults and 2 children. Each capsule is air conditioned thank goodness, as the morning we went on it was a…
