Got Wenger Swiss Army Lucerne Lite 3-Piece Expandable Luggage Set from LuggagePoint.
Out of all sets that I was looking for on Amazon I find this one the most useful.
Compared it to:
Samsonite 5 piece set which includes large 26" garment bag 21" garment bag, duffel bag, tote and a small personal item for toiletries. Samsonite 4 piece set which offers two spinners one large 26" garment bag and 21" garment set as well as tote and small personal item for toiletries. Both came pretty close.
Reviews for 5 piece Samsonite mentioned bad zippers and some problems with the bags. Having a set of Dockers literally disintegrate from inside I figured it would be best not to get 5 piece one even through the price was pretty good ($139).
Usually when I travel with my wife, we need a thrid smaller bag for shoes.
Only decent quality set with 3 piece was this Swiss Army one.
There is another set which I looked at where two large garment bags we spinners. Even though its very useful feature, the price tag is a bit too much $295.
Good:
Outer shell made out of Ballistic Nylon (at least this is what it says on the tag).
Large cast metal zippers. So far tried and they seem to be pretty easy to use without getting stuck.
Telescoping handles. Very smooth and they lock in place.
Inline wheels. Right size and make no noise. They also hold the bag upright at a slant which makes it easier to lower the bag.
Inner shell has some additional pockets for shoes and feels pretty sturdy.
Having only to compare it to Dockers, must say that Dockers outer shell held up well for 5 trips including international travel. Dockers inside casing fell apart.
Handles are on the top and side of the bag.
Rubber/Plastic stoppers on the side of the bag resist wear and tear.
Bad:
Telescoping handles bit too short for my taste on 2 larger bags.
Built-in TSA approved lock would be nice.
Inline wheels make it hard to maneuver larger bags. |
The best suitcase I have ever owned....

I travel 45 to 50 weeks per year for business. I have gone through dozens of suitcases over the years and I can very confidently say that this is by far the best suitcase I have ever had. It just died today on a flight to Florida, but it lasted me two and a half years. This is the equivalent of at least 150 trips or about 75 years of use for the average family that travels twice a year.
The things I like the best about it are: (1) It is light in weight which is important for me because I have to carry tools for work and, often, one or two weeks of clothing. I can always keep it below the 50lb. air carrier limits due to its light weight. (2) It is very solidly built-- there is nothing worse than a suitcase that feels cheap or doesn't roll well. This suitcase feels like a unit that costs twice or three times the amount. (3) The orange color that is available makes it really easy to identify your suitcase from across the baggage claim area. I caught someone taking my suitcase once from 150 feet away. No second guessing; it's one less thing to worry about.
The weakness of this suitcase is the zippers. All of the zipper pulls snapped off fairly early on. However, I was able to attach a key ring to all of them and they worked just fine for a long time. Eventually, however, the loops that I attached the key rings to broke on all of the zippers-- the last one breaking today.
I'm buying another Wenger Lucerne Lite 28 inch suitcase in orange to replace this one. Overall, I was really happy with my last purchase and I am not considering anything else. |

| The product is well constructed and very sturdy and still is lite weight. We would but this again and would tell our friends to buy this product. |
