Las Vegas Archives

So today is the day we go to the time share presentation. I am full of confidence about not getting sucked into anything. But really I have been looking into getting a time share in the US for some time now. So we catch the Deuce bus down to the Mandalay Bay Casino where we check in with the very friendly staff. I know they are friendly because they want your money, I hear you all say. But stay with me here. Well we check in at the Mandalay  and take the shuttle along with a number of other couples,…

Leaving San Francisco and Arriving at Las Vegas

Today we leave San Francisco. After breakfast I go up the road to do the washing so that we have clean clothes when we get to Las Vegas. On the way down in the lift a rather irate women grumbles to us not to lose our key as the cleaning staff are most unhelpful and she has to go down to the desk to get another.  I bit my tongue as I do quite often these days. But I would have thought that as an adult it is your responsibility to put your key in a safe place, and I…

Restaurant Review: Eating Cheaply at Las Vegas Buffets

Eating in Las Vegas is a great experience. Not only is the food of excellent quality but you can feed yourself for a very reasonable price, especially, if you eat at one of the many buffets in the casinos. We have eaten at quite a few buffets in Las Vegas and found that even the cheapest of them provide delicious food. The difference between the more expensive buffets and the cheaper ones seems to relate more to the amount of choice rather than in the quality of the dishes. Here are some of the buffets we ate at and our…

Tonight was an absolutely awesome experience, we have just arrived back at the hotel after seeing Elton John at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Our seats were on the second mezzanine, in the middle, three rows back (row C seats 409/410) but the theatre is built in such a way that everyone has a fantastic view.  Elton was fantastic, although his voice has mellowed with time, everyone is very forgiving because he still sounds great and he gives everything to his performance and everyone just loved being there. Dressed in a black chinese style jacket that contrasted nicely against the Red…

During our stay at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinowe ate at the Plaza Hotel and Casino’s buffet on numerous occasions for both breakfast and dinner. The buffet is well known in downtown Las Vegas as it is one of the cheapest buffets available and people from many different hotels come here to eat for this reason. Whether you are having breakfast, lunch or dinner at the buffet it is always the same price at only $7.77. We decided to give it a go after heading to the Golden Nugget buffet and finding that because it was a Saturday we could…

Downtown Las Vegas At Night

One of the great things about Downtown Las Vegas is that everything is so close to walk to. We simply strolled out one of the doors facing Freemont St and we were right in the midst of everything that was happening. The Strip is full of enormous hotels that take up acres of land so walking from one end of The Strip to the other takes a long time and more if you go into the various casinos for a look around. So walking down Freemont St at night was an enjoyable experience and the atmosphere is intimate and friendly as tourists…

The Las Vegas Premium Outlets

Today we set off for a final look around Downtown Las Vegas and ended up deciding to go to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets. Once again we waited for the shuttle only to have a repeat performance of Sunday. As we once again sat and waited we began to chat with two women from Southern California. When the bus didn’t arrive yet again, the ladies decided to drive and they kindly offered us a lift. The bus finally came just as the valet arrived with their car. So be prepared if you are waiting for the shuttle to the Las Vegas Premium…

We arrive at the front desk of the Golden Nugget and  queue for a couple of minutes before being called to the next available attendent. This lady (whose name escapes us but we think she is called Teri) proceeded to put us through one of the best check-in experiences during our US trip. She was an absolute delight to deal with showing a genuine interest in where we were from and she gave us all sorts of advice on what to see and do while we were staying in Downtown Las Vages. The lobby of the Golden Nugget Casino houses the largest…

Daylight saving began today so we ended up having brunch rather than breakfast. If  you are looking for an inexpensive place to eat where the food is plentiful and really tasty, then you can’t go past the Lucky 7′s restaurant at the Plaza Casino in Downtown Las Vegas. Meals cost $7.77 (before tax) so it ends up costing us $16.74 for two, a great deal really. After brunch we headed back to the Golden Nugget hotel and decided to play the slots and lost of course. We have been having a lucky run so I guess it was inevitable that our…
