Sydney-Opera-House

The Sydney Opera House is instantly recognizable and is one of the most famous man-made structures in the world. And even more so since Oprah came to Australia for a visit and stopped by for a visit. But how much do you know about it? Let’s take a closer look at this fascinating building. What is it? That’s not a trick question! The Opera House isn’t just one venue. It comprises six altogether. The two larger sets of ‘shells’ contain the two largest which are – The Opera Theater – which has 1,507 seats and is the Sydney home of…

The Ferrari Drive Experience

Recently Paula and I had  the most amazing experience. Anyone who has finally fulfilled a life long dream will appreciate just how I felt, because this has been something I have wanted to do forever! We headed off  to Sydney to experience the Ferrari drive which is operated by the Prancing Horse Company in Marrickville. Having arrived a day early to make sure we arrived at the Prancing Horse by 8am the next morning, we stayed overnight at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport (see review) and ordered room service for breakfast as we wanted to head of early.  The traffic…

Back to Canberra Via Cooma

We decided to take the inland road back to Canberra. This meant driving up a very steep incline over the Great Dividing Range.  Not far from the summit  is  a rest area, where we and a number of others stopped to take a break from drive and take in the spectacular views back over  the valley. The township of Cooma is situated in the southern highlands of New South Wales on the Snowy Mountains highway. approximatel 120 km south of Canberra. The population numbers around 8000. Cooma is 800 m (2,600 ft) above sea level. There is a lot to see in and around Cooma…

Eden – At Last

After a quick cup of tea we hop back into the car and head of down to Eden. We are becoming really brave as we have not booked a hotel for the night, deciding instead to see what we can find when we arrive. We drive to the end of town, down the one main street, and finally decide to check into the Twofold Bay Motor Inn. It appears to be relatively new and everything is in the room is very clean and tidy and at $110 for the night, it is very reasonably priced. So we unpack the car and…

Bega And A Visit To The Cheese Factory

I will probably receive a bit of flak for this next statement but I find driving in Australia to be totally boring. I would much rather fly between centres and hire a car locally to drive out to interesting places. So after a fairly long drive I have had enough of being behind the wheel so we decide to stop and take a pit stop at the Cheese Factory in Bega.  Val is a connoisseur of cheese was quite happy at the prospect of cheese tasting and he is also happy that we are supporting local products as Bega cheese is 100%…

A Trip To Eden – First Stop Bungendore

On Monday, Val and I headed off down to Eden. My daughter had been talking to us over the weekend, about this former whaling town. So we decided to go and have a look and check out other places of interest on the way. After some discussion on the best way too go, I relented and let the MOTH (man of the house) have his way, which of course turned out to be the long way, but there you go. The first place of interest is the village of Bungendore which is only a thirty minute drive from Canberra. The…

Back To Canberra Via Cooma

We decided to take the inland road back to Canberra. This meant a very steep climb up over the Great Dividing Range through the South East Forest National Park.  We stopped just below the summit at a lookout area (as did a lot of other travellers). I think the lookout is just in the right spot for a break after such a daunting climb. The views are spectacular. After a walk around through the bush we hop back into the car and set off through the winding road to Cooma. Cooma is situated 2600 ft above sea level, in the…
