Sydney Archives

Well I have to say that I am very pleased with the standard of the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel and thoroughly recommend this hotel when you have a stop over in Sydney. It is simply minutes from the airport and there is a shuttle provided to and from both the domestic and international terminals for $6.00 per person. I booked this hotel through HotelClub.com and it was self rated at 5 stars. I would say it is probably in keeping with a 4 star hotel. The check in service is quick and the staff friendly and efficient. The room…

Leaving Brisbane for Sydney Day 1 of our trip to the US

When I booked this trip to the US through Expedia.com, I didn’t notice that the first leg was from Brisbane to Sydney.  That’s not a problem of course, it just adds an extra dimension to the trip. My granddaughter Ayla and her boyfriend Tim took us to Brisbane Airport to catch the 8:45pm flight to Sydney. Check in with Qantas didn’t take too long and the young man behind the counter was friendly and helpful.  We reached the gate in plenty of time, and of course the flight was delayed. Why am I not surprised. After a very smooth flight…

Last week we drove from Canberra to Sydney to attend an affiliate marketing conference. This was an event that came out of the blue for us so it was a spur of the moment decision to attend. Now we’re used to travelling at a moments notice – in fact we prefer it – so only having a couple of days to book accommodation wasn’t a big deal for us. And after quickly checking out the hotels near the event in Hurlstone Park (a suburb of Sydney), we decided instead to stay in the city centre and drive out each day. We…

As our hotel (Citigate Central) is not too far from Central Station, we decided to catch the train to Circular Quay. The return ticket cost $4.40, as we were only going to Circular Quay and back, so it wasn’t practical to buy the multi- trip ticket. Walking around Circular Quay gives you a spectacular view of both the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Both are well known icons in Sydney. Unfortunately since Paula had a bit of a cold and wasn’t feeling too well, we didn’t spend too much time around the Harbour. We walked up to the…

Strolling Around Darling Harbour in Sydney

After checking into the hotel and dropping off the cases we head off to Darling Harbour to the Leather Bags and Accessories Show that we have come to attend at the Sydney Convention Centre. Darling Harbour is one of those places that is pleasant to walk through, with its many water features, the Carousel, Imax theatre, and assorted other entertainment and shops – lots of shops.   A leisurely stroll along the meandering pathways is a very nice way to spend a couple of hours and there are lots of restaurants at which to enjoy a pleasant meal. Kids of all ages love…

For our two day hiatus to Sydney to attend the Leather Bags and Accessories trade fair we stayed at the Citigate Central Hotel near Darling Harbour. We had stayed here once before when it was known as the Carlton Crest but that was quite a few years ago. We booked the hotel online and it cost $199AUD per night including breakfast. The hotel is situated in Thomas St in Sydney which runs parallel to George St. We like staying in hotels around this area because of the close proximity to Darling Harbour but also because in Thomas St parking is…

Star City Hotel

On our recent trip to Sydney we stayed at the Star City Hotel, a 5 star hotel that is just great. It reminds me of something you would see in Las Vegas (not that I have been there) but on a lesser scale. As we drove from Canberra to Sydney, a three hour drive, we left our car with the valet who whisked our car away. The valet parking was quite cheap at $27 for a 24 hour period. On arrival at the hotel we weren’t able to go straight to our room as a non-smoking room wasn’t available so…

We have just returned from Sydney where we went to see “Priscilla Queen of the Desert“ live onstage. Make sure you don’t miss this production. The performances, music and the outrageous, colorful costumes are not to missed, Paula and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was one of the audience dragged up on stage to dance and try not to make too big a fool of myself. But I can now honestly say with hand on heart that I have danced on stage at the Lyric theatre. So thank you guys. After checking out hotel prices we decided to stay…

The Start of Our Fantastic Trip to Europe

In 2001, My friend Paula and I decided to go to Europe for a holiday. I had always wanted to go to Italy and especially Florence. However Paula convinced me that as we were going to be flying all the way from Australia, we should visit a few more place than just Florence. After the excitement of planning the trip, with the fabulous travel agent from American Express, we set off from Sydney to Singapore. What a pleasure it was to land in Singapore, the airport is just great with lots of beautiful orchid garden arrangements. The ladies that we…
