Piazza St Marco

After climbing around on the ramparts and coming out of the opulent setting of the Basilica we strolled around the square which is full of cafe’s and restaurants. It is a truly amazing site as many of the restaurants have seating outside in roped off areas and orchestras playing to the patrons. We brought a foccacia roll and sat on the steps taking in the sights and sounds. St Marks square is totally overrun by pigeons. They are everywhere and we watched as a little girl of about two, ran around chasing them and they would fly off for a…

Lots of fun and good exercise. The view from this room was over some…

We board the train and settle back to relax and watch the beautiful scenery through Austria and on into Italy. A young couple with their toddler and baby join us in our carriage. We get talking, as the young woman speaks some English, we of course, are hopeless at anything other than English. It turns out that the young lady had spent some time in Australia so we had lots to talk about. They were off to visit her parents in the Austrian Alps. We compared the weather between the two countries, the work situation, education and politics, with the…

In 2001, My friend Paula and I decided to go to Europe for a holiday. I had always wanted to go to Italy and especially Florence. However Paula convinced me that as we were going to be flying all the way from Australia, we should visit a few more place than just Florence. After the excitement of planning the trip, with the fabulous travel agent from American Express, we set off from Sydney to Singapore. What a pleasure it was to land in Singapore, the airport is just great with lots of beautiful orchid garden arrangements. The ladies that we…
