If you will be taking a long haul flight then don’t request a window seat particularly if you are traveling alone. Request the aisle seat instead. The only time you will see anything in the window seat is at take off and landing and on a long flight you will really want the aisle seat as you won’t need to climb over your fellow passengers every time you need to take a trip to the bathroom. It will also mean that you can just get out of your seat at any time to exercise your legs and get the blood…

Star City Hotel
On our recent trip to Sydney we stayed at the Star City Hotel, a 5 star hotel that is just great. It reminds me of something you would see in Las Vegas (not that I have been there) but on a lesser scale. As we drove from Canberra to Sydney, a three hour drive, we left our car with the valet who whisked our car away. The valet parking was quite cheap at $27 for a 24 hour period. On arrival at the hotel we weren’t able to go straight to our room as a non-smoking room wasn’t available so…
Just bought a video camera!
Some might say I’m a bit old fashioned but I have never owned a video camera. So when I saw a special in the Aldi catalogue for a Traveler digital video camera for only $179 I jumped at the chance. This morning I waited in a line of thousands to get one. Well I might be exaggerating a bit – there was probably only about 50 people queued up but fortunately I was about 10th in the queue. We all stood there discussing what we were going in to purchase. Some were there for the bargain upright freezer but it…
OOH LA LA Magnifique Paris is Magnificent
To all you romantics out there – take our advice and visit Paris. We stayed at the Hôtel Louvre Saint-Romain which was a little hotel about 2 minutes walk from the Louvre. A great location in the city center at 5-7, Rue Saint Roch. The room was comfy and was decidedly larger than the one we had in London. Once we had dropped of our luggage, we set out to walk up the Champs-Élysées which is of course the most famous, fashionable street in Paris. There are cafes and luxury shops all the way up the avenue and it is…
Next stop…Paris via the Eurostar!
After a great few days in London we hopped on the Chunnel Train to Paris. The Eurostar was a must do experience for us. We wanted to travel through the channel tunnel so we weren’t too worried that it might be more expensive than a boat trip across. Wanda wasn’t particular keen on travelling by boat anyway due to sea sickness. The Eurostar was comfortable but unfortunately our seats were situated in a spot where we didn’t have a complete window view and the people in front of us who had the full view up and went to sleep as…
Travel Light
Having never traveled overseas to anywhere other than between NZ, Australia and Fiji, I didn’t pack properly. Took way too much stuff, some of which I dumped in a rubbish bin and some of which I posted home at a horrific expense. Being a book lover I picked up some fantasic history books in London which then of course also had to be posted home as we were only at the start of our trip and I didn’t fancy lugging books all round Europe. My advice to anyone going to London and Europe is to take as little as possible,…

If you have to be stuck in an airport then Singapore is the place to be. The terminal is set up with a mini picture theatre (which is free) as well as free XBox games that you can play. Other facilities include: – swimming pool – transit hotel – free sightseeing tour (if you are there for more than 5 hours) – shopping – free internet access These are just a few of the facilities offered.
