There is a great little cafe in Tusayan called, funnily enough the Tusayan Café. It is found two miles south of the entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park on Highway 64. The service is very good and the staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly. This is a typical roadside café with paper napkins and placemats. It is clean and presentable with paintings of the Grand Canyon on the walls. The food at the Tusayan Café is well presented and delicious. We had missed breakfast at the hotel so stopped by before heading into the Grand Canyon National Park and…

Restaurant Review: Dining at the Tusayan Cafe – Grand Canyon Arizona
Hotel Review – Kachina Lodge Grand Canyon
Check in is at 4pm and we had arrived too early to check in. However the young man checked our reservation and suggested we return around 2pm to see if the room was available. When we did return at around 2.30pm the room still wasn’t ready so we sat in the lobby with a number of other people who were also waiting to check in. The young lady behind the counter said she would list us as being in the hotel so that housekeeping would move our room up the list of rooms to be serviced. Check in for the…
Restaurant Review: Dining at the Grand Canyon – El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge
During our stay at the Grand Canyon we ate at both the the El Tovar Restaurant and the Arizona Room at the Bright Angel Restaurant. The El Tovar restaurant is apparently world renowed although after eating breakfast here I am sure it is not because of the quality of its food. Maybe lunch and dinner are better but our breakfast was just plain terrible. It is the first bad meal we have had during our trip to the US so far. We both ordered the two egg breakfast with bacon and fried potatoes which came with a strawberry on the…
Hotel Review: Gold Coast Hotel & Casino – Las Vegas
After picking up the car from the Alamo car rental company near the airport we drove back to the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino which we had just checked into that morning. We drove into the Self Parking area of the hotel which is free. Anyone bringing their car will find it easy to park. The car park is large, with plenty of space to maneuver. There is also valet parking which the attendent told us was free although a tip would be expected. The hotel is situated at: 4000 W Flamingo Rd Las Vegas NV 89103 Although the hotel…
Rio Hotel Las Vegas – Hotel Review
The main reason for our trip to Las Vegas was to attend The Affiliate Summit which was held at the Rio Hotel so it made good sense for us to stay there during this time. As we found out when we came over to the States for the Affiliate Summit in Maimi in 2007, it is so much more convenient if you stay at the venue. The airport shuttle dropped us off right outside the door and there was a queue to check in. Check in was quick and simple and the chap behind the desk was pleasant. We were…
Flying with Southwest Airlines – Review
Up once again at 6am to go to Las Vegas. It is quite cool and raining, in fact it has been cool and raining since we got to LA. The hotel have arranged a car for us because the shuttle buses don’t start running until 9am and we have an early start. The ride in the car (which cost us $55! plus a $5.00 tip) is way more comfortable than the shuttle bus and our driver John is very friendly and chatty. We spend the time chatting about everthing from the lousy weather to travel. It turns out that John is…
Dinner at Johnny Rockets Restaurant Hollywood
We had dinner at the Johnny Rocket restaurant in Hollywood and Highlands. What a great place to eat. The decor is reminiscent of the 1940′s and 1950′s with it’s red leather seating and chrome accents on the tables. Each booth has a tabletop jukebox that plays tunes for a nickel (5cents). There are also full bottles of ketchup provided free of charge although each order of fries comes with a paper plate on which the staff have made a smiley face of ketchup. The staff are dressed in the attire of the period and are extremely friendly and accommodating, the…
The Hollywood Celebrity Hotel – Los Angeles – Hotel Review
After a rather long day having set out from our Hawaii hotel at 5am, and finally arriving at The Celebrity Hotel at around 6pm we were just looking forward to having a shower and having a cup of tea. Paula had already advised me not to expect too much from the hotel as it was only 2 star. So it was nice to be pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The check in process was easy and the receptionist was friendly. The foyer has pictures of stars and some comfortable chairs to sit while you wait for transport and it is…
Aqua Wave Hotel, Wailkik, Honolulu – Hotel Review
While in Hawaii we stayed at the Aqua Wave Hotel which we found through Trip Advisor where it was rated in the top 10 hotels in Waikiki. The foyer is plain with a reception desk on one side and the concierge and a couple of shops on the other. There is a chinese restaurant at the end of the corridor-like entrance. The staff were very friendly and helpful and check in was easy and painless apart from the fact that our room wasn’t ready. This was through no fault of the hotel, as we had arrived early after a 10…
