The Novotel Sydney Olympic Hotel is as it’s name suggests, situated in the midst of the Sydney Olympic Park. Thanks to our GPS we found it without difficulty.
The Novotel is part of a complex of three hotels, including the Ibis and Pullman’s.
After checking in, we were directed to head around the corner to the underground parking. The signage for Pullmans is fine but the other two aren’t clearly defined so we take the first set of elevator’s that we come to, only to find we are in the Ibis. So its back to the basement to find our hotel, which is further along.
Our room (309) is on the third floor overlooking the ANZ stadium. And as the event we are attending is being held in the Dome we are very handy indeed as it is just a short walk across the road. So the Novotel is in an excellent location if you are attending a show or sporting event at than stadium or Acer Arena.
The room is a little noisy as we can hear the traffic noise and the noise from the arenas. We were here during the swans Carlton AFL match which was actually fun as we watched part of it on tv and as it was a direct broadcast we could hear roar of the crowd from the stadium at the same time as it was on the tv. A night time event may prove to be a little bit of a problem.
There are plenty of eating places nearby.
The room is comfortable, although it is a little smaller than we are used to for a double or twin room but we did have two double beds which is great. More and more we are finding that twin rooms provide two single beds. There are colorful artworks on the walls.
The beds have lovely feather doona’s and the linen on the beds are beautifully soft. Each bed has a feather pillow, a polyester filled pillow and a decorator cushion. I did find the towels to be a bit rough.
After searching through the cupboards I finally find the safe in the top of one of the wardrobes which is so high up that neither of us could reach it without standing on a chair, it was also too small to be of any use as a small laptop won’t fit into it.
Tea, coffee and sugar are provided free of charge and there is a well stocked minbar. Other features of the room are a flat screen tv with all the usual channels including fox and fox classics, plentyof plugs for laptops, phones, ipads etc., plenty of shelf space, plenty of glasses, iron, ironing board, hair dryer.
The shower is very large and shower gel, cominbination shampoo/conditioner,small squares of handsoap and tissues are provided

Because we are staying for a few days we are delighted to find that the Ibis, next door, has two guest laundries and you simply take a connecting lift from Novotel to use them. It;svery reasonably priced to use the laundry at $ 2 for the washer and$2 for 25 mins for the dryer. We put in $4 into the dryer as some of gear was heavy material and that gave us 50 minutes. This gave us plenty of time to go for a stroll around Olympic Park while we waited for the washing to be done.
The Staff are very efficient and super friendly. We especially found Elise, the restaurant receptionist to be delightful and nothing was too much trouble for her.
The breakfast is the standard fare of bacon, mushrooms, sausages, baked beans, cereals fresh fruit etc. We found that the restaurant was extremely busy, especially at breakfast and the restaurant seemed to be continually understaffed. Actually breakfast time was chaotic, and in the end we opted to have room service rather that take part in the hustle and bustle. Plus we found that having room service for breakfast was not only less of a hassle but it worked out to be less expensive for us.
Now as far as the Room service goes, there is not a great deal to choose from. Food is good quality but on a couple of occasions arrived lukewarm and even cold.
We did go to the restaurant for dinner on two occassions and the food is very nice, I had the duck confit and it was cooked to perfection.
The cleanliness of the room was soso. Because we review hotels, we check to see if the rooms receive just a cusory clean or a thorough clean between clients and there were areas that looked as if they hadn’t been touched in quite some time.
On the day before we were due to check out we got to the room to find that our keys no longer worked. We went down to reception to have the keys revalidated, but these things really shouldn’t happen.
Then on the morning we were due to checkout the cleaner arrived to do the room at 7:20am, we were still in bed. So communication with the staff appears to be lacking.
However, all in all the room was comfortable and certainly in a great position for the event we were attending, which was the T. Harv Eker “Milionaire Mind Intensive”.
